Wayne, I tend not to trust the movement date stamp as a way to date the manufacture date of a Bulova watch. I have a lot of Bulova's that have a older movement than the date code on the back of the watch.

Have you ever seen a case that looks like the one pictured above before?  Maybe that will help me in finding the "true date"?...

the numbers on the inside look like  "1SL165"  or  "1SL61S"?

It is 15 j

I think the athlete your speaking of is a 9AT.  This one is a 10AN.  The detail on the bezel is certainly the closest match thus far though THANKS!

The date stamp needs to be looked at very closely (forget the j35), look at it with a magnifying glass or a loupe & decipher what shape the date symbol is according to the date symbol chart. If it is 1926, 27, 28, 29 it's an Ambassador. If it's a 1930 it's an Envoy. I think we are going to have to call for an eggspurt to solve this Rachael.  Fun discussion though.

THANKS!!

Any idea what a watch and case like this would be worth??

Looks to most resemble the 1st one to me?! But could that be right?  A 1926 Ambassador with a 1925 date mark and a PAT JAN 11 1927??

I called my Grandfather and he thought it to be a Lone Eagle with a bezel like the one Lndbrg had...? I certainly dont know enough about Bulova to know.

I am on a mission to find this watch though. As of now, no one local to me will or can appraise it properly or even tell me an estimated value because they too are having a difficult time finding info on this watch.

I REALLY APPRECIATE ALL THE HELP!!!!!! THANK YOU

Rachael

All of the 1926 thru 1930 ads that are in my last entry above are artist depictions of the watch. Actually the above watches are the exact same case.  These early ads are not reliable for small details.

I still say it's an Athelete. Why? because there's been no definative answer.
