Bulova 23

Beautiful Bulova 23 series H watch from 1954. The mechanism works very well and keeps time. Its brightness and brilliance after many years is surprising. The original strap worn in the lugs, has been replaced with an identical new one (stock surplus). The watch shows inside (case back) the inscription New York. There are also writings made by repairers and / or maintainers.

Bulova 23 'F' I think .   Looks quite tidy but sadly does not run and getting a f ix seems to be a problem.

Here is a fairly rare Bulova 23 model i picked up at the flea market this morning.  Based on the 1957 LineBook BAWD0132 Page 36 this is a Bulova 23 Q.   It has a stainless steel case with long lugs.  The case back has an L6 date code.  DIal is silver with applied silver date codes.  The automatic movement is a 23J 10BPAC with an L6 date code.

1956 Bulova 23 "Q"

This looks to be a 1955 Bulova 23 "C".  The case is 10KT Yellow gold plate with a stainless steel caseback and an M5 date code. The dial is a grooved starburst with applied yellow gold hour markers.  The movement is a 10BPAC 23 Jewels also with an M5 date code.

The back on this one refuses to come off. It is dated by the close proximity of the serial number to this one. Dial is concentric circles, like an LP record. Stainless steel case. Keeps accurate time.

This is not the greatest condition watch but I do love the style of this one.  Found in the 1955 Linebook this appears to be a 1955 Bulova 23 "K".   The case is yellow gold plated case with awesome carved out lugs.  THe case back is stainless with a L5 date code.  The dial is a radiant groove sunburst with yellow gold applied arrow hour markers.  The movement is the 10PBAC 23J also with am L5 date code.  Someone really did a number on this one.  I hope to get as better condition example soon.

I think this is a 23 Jewels KAW.  My father purchased this in 1961 around the time he got out of the Air Force and he went back to college. He wore it until 1965, when my Grandparents gave him a Rolex GMT Master which he used when he flew for Pan Am.  I found it in a box of his things when we were going through his safe and he gave it to me. It hadn't been worn since 1965 and the strap was dried out and stiff.  I had it in my pocket for a couple of hours, and when I took it out is was running. I set it and wore it all day. It ran for 24 hours and only lost about a minute.  I had it serviced and it is now in my weekly rotation. 

I was quite pleased to pick up a second example of this rarely seen model. Front loader that I had apart to fix the split stem and neglected to photograph. After reassembling the stem (whole thing fell out), it runs, sets and keeps perfect time. Based on an in depth previous discussion seen here, by date, it's a 

1962 Bulova 23 "UUU"

Great looking black dialed Bulova 23.  Stainless case and lumi hands/dots.
