another knock off?

Submitted by FifthAvenueRes… on May 31, 2012 - 8:52am

In the not too distant past the boards were presented with a Watch - the Bulova 'PATRIOT'. A relatively new piece supposidly produced by Bulova with the proceeds of any Sales to benefit the Veterans of the Iraq War.

According to Bulova they have no knowledge of the Watches existance and a search has found no results other than the mentions found here at MyBulova and a short discussion at the NAWCC site.

First Visit to the U.S. Library of Congress

Submitted by NOVA on May 24, 2012 - 12:42pm

I finally went to the U.S. Library of Congress yesterday, which is just 25 miles from my house.  For anyone not familiar with the Library, it is located in Washington, D.C. near the Capitol, and encompasses three large buildings connected by underground tunnels.  Most of the collections are open to the public.  All that is required is registration with a photo ID.  There’s much more information about the library available online at the Library’s Web site, if you’re interested.

Another Buckingham

Well, pursuant to my earlier comments on the previous Buckingham Case thread, I finally convinced my buddy to part with his last night at a local watch meeting in Rockford. (If I do say so myself, I think this was a textbook example of the art of gentle persuasion, but that's another story. Suffice to say I have been working with this guy for two years.)

Anyway, here it is:

1927 Lone Eagle with 10AP movement

Submitted by brtime on May 21, 2012 - 11:35am

Hello: has anyone seen a Lone Eagle (the original 1927 variant) with a 10AP movement? This is my first one. All the ones I have seen prior have had the 10AN. I see the mybulova database also has a few with a 9AT movement. It is definitely a completely different movement than the 10AN (I've included an image of the 10AN that I borrowed from the mybulova database). I checked my Marshall Handy Manual, and I see that the Bulova 10AP was based on an ebauche made by Le Phare.  And of course, it has a mainspring and a staff distinct from the 10AN.

The "Woody" Family

Submitted by NOVA on May 19, 2012 - 10:38pm

We have long believed the Accutron "Woody" to be a single, specific watch, but recently I've acquired a couple of similar models that I thought worth sharing.

All three watches are from 1973.  The first two have a matching bracelet with wood inlay, although the two straps are not exactly the same.  I suspect the Accuquartz had a similar bracelet at one time.

I'm wondering now how many "Woodies" there were.

Well, I finally found a model I have been searching for at a great price.

It was listed as "Bulova 8AE movement w/dial and hands and case".  Not much to go on...

Well the picture was only a little better...

Aaaaaaaa...please don't let anyone else see this!!!!

Well it arrived today.
