The 'THAYER' is a smaller case than the subject 'DUO WIND'
*note the 11 linge bi- directional movement and ad verbage. - ad Dated 1950.
as to why the new 1952 ad shows duo wind on the Dial is anyones guess? the 1952+ database examples of the 'DUO WIND' are obviously the 'THAYER' with their omni-directional movements (rotor winds in one direction only) and have 'selfwinding' printed on the Dial...
The brochure is a large format, multiple page, foldout. It shows the Thayer four times on different pages. They are not all the same illustration. In every instance, "Duo Wind" is on the dial, and the watch is labeled the Thayer.
Here are the four different illustrations:
True, the display ad does not but is Dated 1950, as is the Watch and the 11AAC is a bi-directionally winding movement - a 'DUO WIND'.
and
The 1952+ 'THAYER' ads all state 'selfwinding', not DUO WIND - SELFWINDING as in the 1950 ad.
1952 'THAYER' above.
IMO
Note the Dial markers on the Watch above are a match to the 1952 ad whereas the Dial markers on the subject Watch are a match to the 1950 'DUO-WIND' ad.
Similar, but different.
Why would Bulova place it in the ad for a duo-wind with out the duo-wind on the dial but on the thayer which is not the same type of automatic??
It may seem foolish or even outrageous to side with Mark on this one but the ad does state that it is a duo-wind watch. Maybe the illustrator messed up and forgot to put that on the dial in the ads. Who knows, we have seen stranger things than this. I have a duo-wind just like Marks with matching date codes of 1950 on the case back and movement.
