Gents,
The ad is Dated 1930 and produced for Loftis Jewelers.
although not the best resolution at this size the Case details are visible.
We have this one ID'd throughout the Database beginning in 1927 and ending in 1930 as the 'CURTIS' with no ad to substantiate.
1930 'PRESIDENT MADISON'
enjoy.
admin,
Yes. I have the image in front of Me in 'actual' size.
The Case is enameled on all 4 Corners with enameled scroll work in the Center of the Bezel horizontals and verticles.
Database example above belongs to OT. Hopefully Will Smith will be able to provide a better online image of the Loftis Jeweler ad.
I'm also noting that what We currently have ID'd as the 'CURTIS' uses the same 9 linge Movement as the 'PRESIDENT' of the same era.
The 'CURTIS' ID comes from the Cooksey Shugart price guide which in this instance appears they have wrong.
In reply to admin, Yes. I have the image by FifthAvenueRes…
...and the "Curtis" ID has been around for a while, based on the price guide. Mistakes happen. There are other price guides out there too. The older ones are more interesting to me in this instance, as those newer than the first appearance of the "Curtis" in Cooksey et al could just be a reiteration of the original Cooksey ID. There's a price guide which Fifth references in another post which preceeds the source for this ad. That price guide was dated 1984. Would be interesting to see what's in that guide. Don't now when the first Cooksey, Gilbert, Shugart guide was released. I see Rick Gilberts son is now a coauthor on the last price guide.
All I can say from the 1930 Loftis ad is perhaps the ID of Curtis was good for 1928/29 examples, and MyBulova just hasn't seen that 1928/9 ad yet. The Loftis ad suggests the model was called the President Madison in 1930. ....and maybe Cooksey et. al. simply haven't seen this new Loftis ad yet either. More discussion in this 1930 example.
