My father bought this for my mother in 1965. She was the only owner. As far as I know she never had any work done on this watch. It is 14 K gold. I want to pass it on to my granddaughter one day. I have no idea the model name.
Beautiful watch, and a priceless heirloom. I would like to reiterate what Geoff said, it is critical to have the watch properly overhauled by a qualified watchmaker. It is a mechanical device and can and will destroy itself if run without proper servicing. A watchmaker should also be able to provide an appraisal.
Mechanical watches need periodic maintenance every 4-6 years.

Awww. Not the AE. You know, I looked at the Leading Lady myself. I thought it might be the Leading Lady BD but I can't be sure either..... I sure hope some one can help me identify it.
Also, I am not one hundred per cent sure when daddy bought it. I thought it was in 1965 because the identification on the back "M5" is in your listing as the year.
Blessings!!!

I am a bit confused now. I am beginning to think the only way to verify a watch for sure is to see it in an advertisement. Is that correct? Also, as I said above, the Year = M5 or 1965 correct? What is the 5 AT mean inside the watch??? I am enjoying being a member I just want to understand what I am looking at here.
Thanks alien Ant, but I am not sure. I found it but mom's watch is 23 not 21 jewel count and the picture is just a little bit different. Where you see the 2 diamonds the top and bottom, there is a bit more detail BUT that is the closest picture so far. Are ads just suppose to be a "close" representation or not? Or would that make it the "actual" La Petite model or perhapsmake it a La Petite... with letters like AE afterwards? Sorry for all the questions. I hope you all don't mind. L.
It is a 23 jewel model, all La Petites are 23 jewls. Looking again, there are some small differences..
Most Leading Lady models are 21 jewels and have no diamonds, but it could be a Diamond Romance, as all were 23 jewels and all had diamonds, or it could be a candlelight, as all were 23 jewels and many had diamonds.

Scratch the above comment on the Leading Lady.
Only two or three ads on site for one with more than 21 jewels, and none with diamonds.
All Candlelights on site have diamonds as well as 23 jewels, so is in the running with the Diamond Romance as well as the La Petite, but the LP is favourite in my opinion.
