This one was my Saturday morning project today. I think it turned out pretty good. I'm pretty sure it's a "Cadet" model, but I didn't see an example of a 1942 on here.

Nice job, looks real nice. I would identify this one as the Cadet, and quite possibly variant "D". This case style looks similar in several models - Ranger, Lieutenant, and Cadet; the first two do not look to have had engraved bezels. The Cadet had the engraved bezel, and there was a coral color which was the "B" and a confusing "A" variant in the same 1943 ad, 1944 ad shows the yellow engraved as the "D". The first Cadet ad shows up in 1942 with a plain bezel, but I would think the various options were available - with or without engraving, with or without the expansion band. I would vote Cadet "D".

I'm still thinking through the possible differences btwn the "A" and "D".
Ads above state both are yellow gold....however the text for the 1944 ad states "Harmonizing dial has black Arabic numerals and hands." While the "B" is also listed (first) in this ad, the text discription seems to fit the "D", so D is yellow engraved w/ black numerals/hands.
The only ad which states gold numerals and hands is the 1943 "B" ad for the Red. Subject watch is not the "B". The 1943 "A" ad shows an unengraved case in graphic, but states "...engraved at both sides" so this ad has at least one mistake. LOL is the A engraved as the text states, or unengraved as the graphic depicts?
And as noted, an unengraved (no variant) spanish ad in '42.

Here's a 1944 "A" in the database, and a '44 "D". They look the same to me. Am I missing something? ...or is it the bracelet mount? I think ad prices for both are same. Lisa lists some charactoristics for ads (and examples), but I'm not finding all those ads...
Nice looking watch merc, good photos too. I'm pretty sure it's a Cadet but totally unsure about a variant. I tend to shy away from nailing that down if there are any conflicts. As Will points out, there is a bit of confusion.
I'm sticking to Cadet for now, no Variant.
