1949?I thought Arnold at first but the bezel on this one has engraving on all sides. Caseback,BULOVA 49 Inside case back,BULOVA,10K ROLLED GOLD PLATE BEZEL,STAINLESS BACK,NEW YORK. The 10BC 7 jewel movement is actually marked J9 and not A9.
I agree with Bobbee.
And most of the time you can find these still in great shape because by them only having 7 jewels they require servicing at more frequent intervals than the higher jewel models. I think budget minded people originally bought these and didn't pay to have them serviced but rather when they quit running they just put them aside and bought another watch.

The date code table actually shows both 49 and J9, in addtition to the A9. Go figure. That's Bulova for ya. Maybe there was some distinction other than simply years date, but I don't know.
