Lovely vintage Speidel No. 58 GP band, this is either the Ben-Hur or the Calhoun.
Case back outside has "Bulova10K gold filled" at one end and the serial no. at the other end.
Very nice, clean dial and hands, very light wear to case back, case front hardly any wear to gold fill.
Case dimensions are 36mm X 26mm, lugs 13mm gape, both sides. Crystal roughly 27.5 X 17.5mm.
Photos by seller, Davethedrums, as I cannot get pics from my new camera to upload.
In reply to Calhoun, exact match for by mybulova_admin
Yes Nova and others discussed this distinction before, if I remember correctly. So there's an engraved and an unengraved Ben Hur. Ads indicate this is possibly by "year", but I'm thinking there were both for the full range of years for which we have ads. The difference btwn Ben Hur and Calhoun, as suggested by the Calhoun ad graphic, is the Calhoun is shown on that three-strip leather strap.
Another hum-dinger.
Anybody wanna try to add up the votes and summarize below? LOL It gets challenging to do so.
EDIT: OT was gonna update a couple records he has for similar w/ case dimensions, and Lisa has case dimensions listed on her site.
Yes above matches the dimensions of the subject watch. ..but which of the two model choices are these two records? Are there other watches which look similar, but may have different dimensions? This could indicate there's a difference in size between the Ben Hur/ Calhoun- which otherwise look similar. I don't remember what crystal spesc say between the two. I'll re-read again..... It's almost like I have a crystal specs learning disability LOL.
I'm going with Unknown. This is only because we don't have an ID name for a "Calhoun and/or Ben Hur". I think this is one of those examples where the mount makes the model (not variant). I see there's an unengraved Ben Hur in the ads in 1938, but the unengraved Calhoun ad in root record is also dated 1938.
If I completely disregard the mount, I couldn't say if it's the Calhoun or Ben Hur....But I'd say it was both if we had that choice.
