I'm trying to find out some information about it's value. This watch has been passed down through geneartions and I was informed that it is a nice watch by a local jeweler. It is all original and in working condition. It is rose colored gold filled. The chrystal is a little scrathed up and case needs a little bit of shining, but other than that and a new strap, it's very nice. The movement is dated 1947 so it is assumed it has been replaced.
Wayne,
Where is the evidence that the Watch You are showing on the left is the 'COMMODORE' ?? The vintage Bulova advertisement posted prior (I will post it once more just in case You missed it) shows a Case with entirely different lugs.
I would suggest, as stated earlier, that both Watches You show above are the 'BROKER', variants of which are unknown at this time.
No more musical watches Fifth. It's a waste of time! The fact is that you wouldn't dare to employ a bit of analytical judgement without an ad, makes it difficult to reason with you. Bulova didn't choose to advertise some watches & leaves quite a challenge & a lot of watches nameless.
I think that subject watch is a 1947 case matching the 1947 movement. The watch looks like our Commodore watches, but of course we can't call them Commode because their is no ad for our watches. According to the ads in the data base there is no 1947 Director. I am leaving my watch out of this, I don't have it in the database. I believe that RobHas should step up & solve the naming of his watch. Fifth identifies it as a 1941 Director with a 1947 8AH movement. Which I don't think is correct. Fifth says it just like his director, but has failed to produce a head on shot of his Director.
Simpletreasures,
In 1941 this design was named 'DIRECTOR' yet We have 2 identicals dated 1947 and 1948
We know in 1947 this design is not named 'DIRECTOR'.
We have an illustration of a 'COMMODORE', the Case Design does not match the Watch in question, the 'BROKER' although unseen however accepts the same Crystal.
After sifting through all of this it is My contentention that this 1941 design was continued to be produced (with a slight dimensional change as noted below) and at some point was renamed (when the 'DIRECTOR' design changed).
In 1947 this design was the 'BROKER' - the Rose case and/or engraved varieties are unknown variants.
Watch on Left - 8AE dated 1941, Case measures 37mm lug to lug x 20mm wide non inclusive of the Crown: the 'DIRECTOR'.
Watch on Right - 8AH dated 1945, Case measures 38mm lug to lug x 22mm wide non inclusive of the Crown: the 'BROKER'.
*These case measurements are consistant with Scott's Crystal analysis posted prior and being the 'COMMODORE' has very different lugs would additionally bolster the 'BROKER' ID.
Gentlemen, measure Your Cases.
So as conjecture would have it, without ads to confirm, we're thinking that RobHas" 47' and my Rose 48' are Brokers? The 41' and 45' sitting side by side above certainly appear to be identical minus the engraving, crown, dial,& hands. Again, without ads to confirm, these should contine to be classified as "Unknown"? Back to hunting for ads.....
