This 1955 23 is marked "Bulova 10k Rolled (then two or three characters I can't make out) Plated Bezel Stainless Back New York" on the inside case back. It has the L5 date stamp and A236211 on the outer case back as well as Bulova, Anti-Magnetic, Shock-Resistant, Self-Winding, Water Tite, and Stainless Steel Back. The crown is not signed, but I do not believe the crown has been replaced as the finish and patina matches the case exactly. The movement is signed Bulova - USA, 23 Jewels, 6 Adjustments and 10BPAC (as well as listing the 6 adjustment positions). The movement is in beautiful condition and keeps fantastic time. Nice, clean watch from 1955. The dial and crystal appear to be original and untouched except for crystal polishing.
Not sure here, it's certainly a great looking watch but something isn't matching. I don't see those lugs on any advertised "23" in the '54, '55 or '56 ads. I see them on a Beau in '56 and a Watertite in '54. Crown is aftermarket but has no bearing on ID.
I'm going to look at this a bit more before I vote.
I tend to agree with Geoff.
We have a 1955 advert that says that there were 12 different Bulova 23 models.
This one is closest to the "J" model as seen in the updated advert below....but doesn't seem an exact match. I saw another advert that had an "R" model but I think that it was in fact a "I" mid-ID.
Tentative generic Bulova 23 at the moment for me.
Generic + A-K = 12 models...or are we missing "L"?
