Could it be that the dial is customized?

Yes, that is very possible. It is also possible that this is a replacement dial that is not original to your watch. It is difficult to know.

Could it be a european watch  version?

Don't know.  Did anyone check the Patent Number info?  The dial says Swiss.  i think I see Swiss on the movement.  I doubt Bulova would put a US patent number on a Swiss made Bulova for import to EU- if the patent number even is US.

Import code Bulova is BXW. "The code is assigned to the US importer. This can also be the US subsidiary of a foreing manufacturer......." (ranfft.de)

My watch does not have that code.

The caliber has a MXS and M1 engraved. What does that mean?

Aha....I didn't see the Swiss to USA import code BXW.  This is one reason it's nice to not only have pictures showing the watch, but list all signatures/stampings which are on the watch in the comments section of the root record.

Don't know what the MXS could be.

Hi Jeff, there's no question that these two are the same, good eye. What I'm unsure of is that the other watch is ID'd correctly. It's a very old record and I'm not sure it's correct.

Yes it is anohter example, but like Geoff points out, that ID is old.   I'm only at one tick for that ID.
But at least its another example, and that one has gold case back.

Is my wacth a Buloba Sea King or not?

It is very similar in the film Tank Commandos (1959)
