Maybe we need to look to the data base for answers, (and find that Peter has this exact same watch already in the db as a RR dated 1967 - cool - twins!!)

We have set a precedent already and we either name this RR or revamp all Accutron names. I am opening a PM to the panel to discuss off line.

Geoff, the 1967 watch is different to this one with a red inner 13-24 nos. track and different lugs.

Bulova Accutron 214 gets my vote. The 202 is only signed Accutron, Railroad Approved. See Cooksey's page 690

The 214 is signed Bulova Accutron, Railroad Approved like the subject watch. See Cooksey's, page 696.

Then Cookseys Data in this instance is incorrect as there was no ACCUTRON series 202.

The subject is an 'ACCUTRON series 214' - Railroad model or 'Railroad approved', which according to the ad had a model# of 202.

a little cornfusing.

So a question that comes to mind.

How do we determin if its a real 'Railroad Approved' watch rather than a standard Accutron 214 with replacement dial.

Are there other telling features to the RR Approved watches. I saw somewhere once that they owners of the watch were not allowed to open the watch up and that only quailified rail staff could service these things to keep the whole accuracy thing in check.

I'm still happy for the Accutron RR Approved to be given as a model ID.

The model in the advertisement  has a different shape seconds  hand  hand. hand and it looks like its been painted black. Not the usual red color the RR's have. My RR is a 1966 Railroad Approved with straight lugs.

The subject is an ACCUTRON 214 series wrist Watch. - The Model number, according to the ad is 202.

The Accutron is always identified by the Series, not by the model number.

This particular model of Accutron 214 is 'Railroad approved'

Two Bulova Accutron 202 in Lists.  In all other areas of these lists, the center column is the "model name" we seen in vintage ads and also on hang tags (w/ unique Bulova model number on left and price on right). I doubt accutrons are much different.  In some places it indicates dial color and gold color.  I doubt the 21001 is black gold (Blk), so it must mean dial color variant of model 202. The price difference between $125 and $175 suggests there's some other distinguishing characteristics... maybe solid gold as well as black dial?

an ACCUTRON 202 doesn't exist, it never did.

The subject is an ACCUTRON series 214 easily identifiable by the settings on its caseback

Please refer to the Accutron specialty sites below:

http://www.accutron214.com/

model #202 the 'Railroad model' or 'Railroad approved'

Those price lists are confusing the heck out of everyone.

Below is a set of literature from a Railroad Model Accutron 214.

*note it does not say 202, it states series 214.

We're confusing a model number with the Accutron Series. The reason the old ads and obviously the price list does not clarify the Series is that the newer Accutrons had yet to be developed therefore there was no reason to state '214' as they were the only Accutrons on the market.

The Accutron Series is the base of its identification - the Model number is a variation of.

Mark, Give it up already. The existance of the model 202 has already been proven beyond any doubt. It may well have been a "Series 214" but it's a "series 214" model # 202. Our subject watch is a "series 214" model # 214.
