Peter, in your medley of watches named the Date King, all were named by the owners, back in the days when you named your own watch and it stayed, like it or not. In my opinion, only one was correctly ID'd as a Date King, and that was gold plated and matched the ad it is next to, the rest are best guesses if you ask me, and several may be the President in the ad i posted.
I think we're going to find the King is manually wound. No 100% positive confirmation as of yet but indications are pointing in that direction.
To Date all ads of this era for Watches named King, Sea King, are Waterproof with manually wound Movements whereas all ads for Clippers are Waterproof Automatics.
P.S. Golden Clipper would have a Gold Caseback.
Are we sure about the case back being gold plated? This ad from 1972 has the Golden Clipper "G", centre left, and the description makes no mention, in fact it states "all stainless steel".
BTW, centre right, the info says Bulova Clipper "Y", but the dial says it is a Sea King!
