Watch Description

I would like information on this watch. My grandfather bougt it new in 1949 and worn it everyday till he died in 1968. I have had it ever since. It shows wear but works so,  I had it cleaned,  oiled and adjusted. I would like information on it. I would like to know what model it is and if the band was original.

Thank You  Dan

Good one Bobbee.  There is one Beau Brummel in the 1955 model price list for $71.50. The $71.50 BB is not listed under the Men's Diamond Dial section of model price lists.   Others BB's in price lists are priced higher.  We have other Beau model records on site, where watch Owners have tested and found real diamond, and some of these are listed under the Men's Diamond Dial section of the model price lists.  The text of the ad tells us, and the price suggest the white stones are not diamond, and rubies are simulated.

Lots of Squadron ads. Only one new ad for BB.  I'm good with Beau Brummel for this watch, however the case sure looks like the Squadron too.

Yes, Squadron case is exactly the same, but how often do we see the same thing?

And don't forget that original band!

Since this ad was found, another has been added to the DB, and lots seen on the ad sites.

Time for a change.

So two ads for a similar watch as the Beau-both with subject watch dial.  I'm trying to remember how late we have the Squadron ads (and watch examples).  Was there overlap in the two models?  And if so, was the distinction the dial and jewel count?  I know the end dates are hard to get from the ads :)

EDIT:  Just noticing the subject watch is dated from when (owners) "...Grandfather bought it".  No other indication of date.

So we have Squadron ads through 1955 (for ad below) and a 1957 watch example.  All are for a 17 jewel movement.

The December 1955 Bulova model price lists show several examples of "Squadron", with unique model numbers. One section lists by price and includes gold color(left), and another section by model name(right). For one "set" the unique number (38715) and variant letter ("C") are the same, but there are two different prices listed (probably dial variant).

Now the Beau Burmmel entries from same list.  There's the $71.50 price, matching Bobbee's ad price. Bobbee's BB ad also states 17 jewels.

Is the only difference between the Beau and the Squadron this dial style and price? There's overlap on dates for both at this time.

looking through the watches i am wondering why this is still a squadron and not a beau brummel?

Based on various new ads, as discussed above, subject watch w/ this dial configuration looks like it's a Beau Brummel.
